Makos Sign New Head Coach!

Darrin McDowell, Head Coach, Palm Beach Makos

The Palm Beach Makos is proud to introduce the new head coach, Darrin McDowell. Coach McDowell comes to the Makos with an extensive coaching resume and military background. He is a native of Newton, NJ, with formal education from High Point High School in New Jersey. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Thomas Edison State College, Trenton, NJ.

He is a retired United States Army and National Guard Officer (Captain/O-3) and began his military service as Enlisted personnel. As enlisted personnel, he served as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne, British Para Trooper (Aldershot, England), Combat Medic, and received training as a Jungle Expert. As an officer, he served as a Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, Company Commander, and a Battalion Supply Officer.

He is a graduate of the Army Officer Candidate School, Advanced Armor School, and the Army War College. His combat experience includes Operation Just Cause, Panama; Desert Shield/Desert Storm Gulf War; Operation Enduring Freedom, Iraq.

Additionally, outside of the military, he served as a Senior Wildlife Personnel with the New Jersey Department Environmental Protection in Newton, NJ before entering law enforcement. He is a retired Sussex County Sheriff Deputy also of Newton, NJ.

Coaching experience, prior to becoming the Makos Head Coach is as an Assistant with High Point High School, All Star National Prep All Stars, NJ. His Minor-League coaching experience is as a Running Back Coach and Offensive Coordinator with the NJ Stags (Playoffs); Offensive Coordinator and Head Coach with the Nepa Miners (Playoffs to Semi-Finals); Offensive Coordinator Tristate Bulldogs, NY (Semi-Finals); Head Coach, Lehigh Valley Storm, PA (Semi-Finals); and Head Coach of the Sussex Stages, NJ (Championship Game).

The Makos is excited to have Coach McDowell a part of the Makos family. Coach McDowell has jumped in and has helped set an agenda for the direction of the players returning and new players joining the team. Rev. Wilder, Team Owner, says, “Coach McDowell is a welcome addition to the to the family and brings a new discipline to the Makos team. This will be fun to watch in the near future!”

Makos Long Time and Only Head Coach Hangs Up the Clipboard

Makos Head Coach, Mike Rock, has put down the clipboard. Rock has been the Makos head coach since the teams inception, July 2009. Coach Rock assembled, trained, and mentored the team through triumps and the storms. He is a native of Long Island, New York. He graduated from Uniondale High School, NY and attended the State University of New York (Delhi).

His coaching experience includes Offensive Coordinator Palm Beach Titans; Defensive Coordinator Port St. Lucie Mustangs of the National Indoor Football League and is the Head Coach of the Makos. He is also a 4 time All-star of the Southern State Football League and the Southeastern Football League (respectively). For the Makos, he was also Coach of the Year for the Florida Football Alliance (AFC Conference) in 2013, Offensive Coordinator of the Year in 2015, and guided the team to two East Division Championships in 2013 and 2015.

The Makos will miss his leadership and steadfast demeanor. Rev. Gary Wilder, Team Owner, says, "Rock has been the anchor for the Makos from day one. It is bitter sweet to have him step away from the game he loves. We know that when one chapter closes, another chapter opens. I pray the best for him in all his future endeavors and he will forever be a Makos!"

Rev. Wilder did not let Coach Rock completely walk away from the team. Rock will remain as an Assistant with Team Recruiting; a role that is needed for future talent for the team. Godspeed Coach and a Makos Forever!!

3rd Annual Makos Toys For Tots Another Success!

         

On Saturday, December 17th, 2016, the Palm Beach Makos held thier 3rd Annual Toys-4-Tots game which was another Success! The Makos collected more than 800 toys which will be a distrubuted to many children in the Riviera Beach area. The toys were collected for the City of Riviera Beach and to Mothers Against Murder Association (MAMA) of Riviera Beach. This will truly be a blessing to children in the local community.

As for the game, the South Florida Vultures of Miami of the United Football Federation (UFF) proved to be a formiable test for the Makos early as the the Makos won 26-8.  The Makos defense stood strong against a strong pass attack from the Vultures, The Makos offense showed signs that the running game continued where it left off last year.  This proves to be a successful season for the Makos.

The Palm Beach Makos will hold its’ 3rd Annual Toys-4-Tots game against the South Florida Vultures of Miami. The previous 2 games were a Success both on the field and off, where The Makos collected more than 1300 toys and won the game 18-12! We seek to continue that same success! This years’ toys will be distributed to families within our newest partner, The City of Riviera Beach. 

Please bring any unwrapped toy to the game so that a child may blessed this Christmas! We are looking to make this Christmas even brighter than before!! Game time is Saturday, December 17th at 5:00pm at Wells Field in Riviera Beach, 2409 Ave H E, Riviera Beach, Florida 33404. We look forward to you being out for a successful drive and to cheer Your Palm Beach Makos on to Victory!

Makos Regroup for the 2017 Season

The Makos are continuing practice for the 2016-2017 Season. Registration will be held at Wells Field, Riviera Beach during practice from 8:00 to 10:00PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Click Facilities link for infomation on practice site. We are looking for players who will: "Decide / Commit / Succeed" to be a Makos! Are you up for the challenge?
